Themed Hikes for 2024

Waterfalls

Visit 4 of the 7 major waterfalls along the MST (over 30 feet high). Includes Widows Creek Falls, Stone Mountain Falls, Middle Falls, Lower Falls and Carter Falls.
Total hike approximately 5 miles, 4 hours. Easy/moderate. 
Meet @ Widows Creek Falls parking area.

Forest BAthing

Learn about the Japanese custom of Shinrin-Yoku along the forest bathing trail. Visit the mural viewing area at the Klondike Lake dam. 
Total hike approximately 2 miles, 2 hours. Easy.
Meet at the Grassy Creek Vineyard tasting room

Moonshine stills

Visit some of the stills of Stone Mountain and learn about the cat and mouse game between revenuers and the moonshiners. 
Much of this hike is off trail. 2 miles, 2 hours. Moderate/Difficult.
Meet at Garden Creek Church parking area in Stone Mountain State Park.

Yoga on the Mountain 

Join in on a group yoga outing on the face of Wolf Rock in Stone Mountain State Park. 

Approximately 2 miles, 2 hours Easy.

Meets at Lower Stone Mountain Trailhead Parking Lot . 

Naturalist Hike

Hear from our local naturalist expert and get to know some of the trees, flora and fauna of our area. An excellent choice for wildflower fanatics and bird enthusiasts.

2-3 miles, 2 hours, Easy.

Friday: Meets at Isaac's Trailhead (Mountains to Sea Trail)

Saturday: Meets at Wells Knob Trailhead

NEW for '24: MST Segment 6 Thru-Hike

If you are looking to 'section hike' the NC Mountains to Sea Trail, here is your chance to complete most or all of section 6.

Starting on ThursdayStone Mountain Country Store to Wells Knob for overnight camping

                                        (9.3 miles, Moderate/Difficult

Friday: trek to Elkin and enjoy evening festivities in downtown and camp at Crater Park

                                   (13.5 miles, Moderate/Difficult

Saturday: open for Trail Days activities, vendors and entertainment

Sunday: rest the legs and float the Yadkin River from Elkin to Pilot Mountain

                                  (alternative hike from Elkin to Rockford on Saturday (17.2 miles), then

                                            Rockford to Pilot Mountain Sunday (15miles)

Approximately 31 miles hiking AND 20 miles paddling. 4 DAYS. Long hikes with some 'road walk'. Paddling will take a minimum of 8 hours to complete. Some meals and shuttles available.
