Stone Mountain Falls Hike

Stone Mountain- Lower Trailhead parking area

Join a park ranger for a three-mile moderate hike to the base of Stone Mountain Falls at 1:00pm on 6/3/21. The Stone Mountain Falls are the largest waterfalls located within the park at over two-hundred-feet tall. The hike will also pass by the historic Hutchinson Homestead and will feature an incredible view of the six-hundred-foot granite dome in which the park is named for. Stone Mountain is part of a twenty-five-square mile pluton of igneous rock located in both Wilkes and Alleghany counties. Participants will need to meet at the lower trailhead parking area and be sure to wear the appropriate footwear for hiking in addition to bringing snacks, water, and a camera to capture some of the splendors of nature along on the way.

Gather the kids and discover the educational features highlighted by Pokémon stops and gyms from east Main Street, through downtown following the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, joining the Overmountain Victory Trail along the Big Elkin Creek to join the Elkin & Alleghany Rail Trail and end at the Elkin Municipal Park. Children must be accompanied by adult. Equipment is not provided, games should be loaded and ready to play at hike start time. This hike led by Beanie Taylor is easy and approximately 1.5 miles. RAIN OR SHINE - It's On!
Our fourth year of celebrating National Trails Day® and the second NC Trail Days work event by doing some trail work on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail within Stone Mountain State Park.
WE WILL BE DOING TRAIL MAINTENANCE ON A PORTION OF THE MST!
(Mountains-to-Sea Trail)
Possible tasks include removing roots, working on tread/slope, water erosion control, limb/debris removal, and other tasks.
Come join us!
There will be something for all ages.
** 8:15 AM CHECK-IN ** at the Stone Mountain State Park Visitor Center.
Via vehicles, we'll travel to the actual work spot.
Last minute attendees are welcome to attend; however, please try to RSVP so we can coordinate efficiently. All last minute notices will be sent thru the meetup portal (more reason to RSVP attending).
Bring any tools you may have, extra trash bags, water, gloves, bug repellent, sunscreen....and so on.
(definitely hydrate/bring water- humidity may be a factor)

Yadkin River Clean-Up

Join the Yadkin Riverkeeper (YRK), the Elkin Valley Trails Association, and other volunteers to remove garbage and debris while paddling down the Yadkin from Ronda to Crater Park (6.8 miles) in Elkin. Registration is recommended for this event. YRK will provide a limited number of boats to volunteers that need them, but we are encouraging volunteers to BYOBoat. Paddlers will drop off boats in the Ronda Access Area on Clingman Road between 11-11:30am, drive their vehicles to Crater Park at 310 Standard Street, Elkin for provided Lunch and be shuttled back to Ronda to begin the cleanup. Yadkin Riverkeeper will be registering participants. Sponsored by Suez
